LA FIRE: The Eaton and Palisades Fires are likely the second and fourth most destructive in California history.

Firefighters are in a critical stage of their almost week-long battle against deadly Los Angeles blazes. Crews report progress but officials say the fire threat will remain very high as dangerous winds return this week.

Meanwhile,  At least 24 people have died, and dozens are missing, but officials say it’s not yet safe to assess the true toll.

14,117 acres, 27% contained

Palisades Fire
Pacific Palisades (LA County)
23,713 acres, 13% contained

Hurst Fire 
Sylmar Area (LA County)
799 acres. 89% contained
